At Fireline Automation, our name is inspired by the Pulaski axe, a vital tool in wildfire fighting, invented by Ed Pulaski in 1911. This unique tool, combining an axe and an adze, is used to create firelines, crucial barriers that help stop the spread of wildfires.

The story behind the Pulaski axe is one of heroism and innovation. In August 1910, during the catastrophic "Big Burn" in Idaho, Ed Pulaski, a U.S. Forest Service Ranger, led his crew of 45 firefighters through a raging inferno. Trapped by the advancing flames, Pulaski guided his men to safety in an abandoned mine tunnel, holding them at gunpoint to prevent panic and ensuring their survival. This act of bravery not only saved lives but also highlighted the need for better firefighting tools, leading to the creation of the Pulaski axe.
